Travel Blogs: Best of the Week

2

Here are a few of the best travel posts of the week:

Nellie at Wild Junket has incredible pictures of Hot-Air Ballooning in Cappadocia, Turkey.  If you haven’t seen pictures of Cappadocia, you need to take a look at this post.  Who knew that it was one of the most popular places in the world for hot-air ballooning?

Monica from A Pair of Panties and Boxers guest posts on Twenty-Something Travel: Six Slick Ways To Stash Your Cash.  And yes, ladies, hiding money in one of your pads is GENIUS.  No guy will want to go there.  (That’s how I smuggled Cuban cigars for my dad home from Argentina — I hid them in my tampon applicators!)

Christine from Almost Fearless shares Terrible Travel Advice That I Never Took.  I particularly related to the advice of not talking to people while traveling alone as a woman.  My first weekend while studying in Florence, I got chatted up by a guy on the Ponte Vecchio, agreed to go for a walk with him — despite the “THIS IS A LIFETIME MOVIE!” bells ringing in my head — and ended up having a nice afternoon chatting with him and his cousin at a cafe.  Not everyone is out to get you.

Steve Holt (STEVE HOLT!), on Matador Nights, interviews Irish bartenders to lecture Americans on proper Irish pub etiquette. Don’t touch the Guinness mid-pour, don’t open a tab, and don’t have what he’s having.

Finally, can travel advice be summed up in three words? Amar at GapYearEscape thinks so.  Check out what people shared for Travel Advice in Three Words.  Mine?  Go. Worry later.

Fun roundup – I hadn’t seen the Matador pub piece before and I love it, good to know, esp since a tab is so common state-side!
