Travel Blogs: Best of the Week (May 16-29, 2010)

Here’s a double dose of the best travel blog posts of the week.  Apologies for missing last week, but the best won’t be overlooked!

26 Hours in Paris: If you only had one day to spend in Paris and hadn’t been before, what would you do?  The Brooklyn Nomad did quite well — he also took a lot of our suggestions!

Second Chances: Where Would You Like to Revisit? Sometimes things get in the way of our enjoying a new place. Steph at Twenty-Something Travel ponders the reasons why and the places she’d like to give another chance. Personally, I’d like to visit Los Angeles again, now that I can appreciate it for its odd personality.

Can Globe-Trotting Location-Independent Kids Have Friends? Jeanne at SoulTravelers3 shares the question that I had been wondering for so long but felt it would be rude to ask. As she and her family travel full-time, can her nine-year-old daughter ever keep friendships? Definitely worth a read.

A Little Advice…Regain Your Sanity When Things Go Wrong On the Road: One thing long-term travelers need to be cautious about it burn-out, especially when things don’t go according to plan. Shannon at A Little Adrift shares the advice she received from fellow travelers when Central America was wearing her out.

Do This Before You Leave on Long-Term Travel! Lillie at Around the World L returned home after nine months abroad and wasn’t able to find a thing. It’s a small thing to do for preparation, and not one that gets mentioned often, but a smart one!

My Guide to Greek Food: Greek food is far more than gyros and salads topped with feta cheese. Nomadic Matt does the grueling taste-testing so that we don’t have to.  And I’m never going to argue with a food called “fried cheese.”

Graffiti in Sevilla: Travels of Adam continues the Iberian portion of his RTW trip and takes some gorgeous pictures of graffiti. REALLY gorgeous. I’m wondering if the second-to-last one supposed to be Obama?

Couch Surfing: First Time Hosting: I am a huge fan of Couchsurfing, and I’ve hosted in Boston, but never had anyone stay over. Poi from No Place to Be hadn’t hosted until now — and he had quite the crazy time with his German guests! Man, if I had room in my tiny apartment, I would host for sure…

The Challenge of the Cornet Has Commenced: Now, THIS is a challenge in which I’d gladly compete! C’est Christine, living abroad in Nice, has decided to attempt to try all 93 flavors of ice cream until she can no longer zip her pants.  Sounds a LOT like my semester in Florence.

And that’s the week! Look for a new installment of five next weekend.
