Travel Blogs: Best of the Week (June 20-26, 2010)

As always, check out my Travel Blogs Bundle for the RSS feeds of 44 great travel blogs.  This week was a bit light on the posting — in part because so many people were at #TBEX.  (I will be with you in Vancouver next year — I promise you that!)

Here are some great posts from the past week:

Fathers Around the World: A Mosaic and Slideshow: This post by Daniel and Audrey on Uncornered Market was a lovely post for Father’s Day.  I love photography posts like this that are beautiful yet accessible — more like “look how nice this looks” than “WHOA SEE WHAT I CAN DO WITH MY CAMERA!!”  Great pictures.

High Off Drums in Buenos Aires with La Bomba de Tiempo: Michael at Art of Backpacking profiles this incredible event.  I went to La Bomba when I was in Buenos Aires, and it was the BEST THING I DID THERE.  Imagine a giant concert with wild drumming, everyone dancing so hard that they’re flailing aimlessly, not caring, covered in sweat, and drinking and smoking and eating in the street… If you’re in Buenos Aires on a Monday, YOU MUST GO.  Michael’s review tells you everything you need to know!

Jersey Shore, More Than Fist Pumps: Come on, do you think I wouldn’t share anything about Jersey Shore? Kirsten Alana guest posts on A Pair of Panties and Boxers (yes, Monica always has the best guest posts!) and shares the softer, quieter side of the Jersey Shore, complete with beautiful photos.

Is Thailand Safe Now? Andrew at Gadling answers the question.  In short, yes.  I plan to be in Thailand in the relatively near future, and this is one piece that I will be emailing to my parents.  If you’re planning a trip to Thailand, you should, too.

The Difficult Life of a Korean Student: Sharon at Life After Cubes has been living in Korea and posting about life there.  I knew that Korean students worked much harder than Americans, but I never knew the extent of it — and while I try SO hard not to judge other cultures, this made me feel so sad for Korean kids!

30 Photos to Inspire Travel in Australia: Yes, Amar from Gap Year Escape is here again — this time with thirty wonderful pictures from his time in Australia, from beaches and surfing to penguins and shark diving.  If it weren’t winter there right now, I wouldn’t be able to keep myself from jumping on a plane to Sydney NOW!

What Country Has the Worst Food? This post from Bret at The Jetpacker hilariously dissects the results of a recent travel survey.  So, who has the worst food?  The survey says the UK, but in my experience, it was Czech Republic.  Salty meat, bready dumplings, few vegetables…I wasn’t a fan.  The beer, though…that was another story!

  1. Michael says:

Thanks for the mention! I LOVED the bomba. Such an awesome time.

  2. Thanks for the love, Kate! Now the difficult question is: Czech food… or airline food? Option C is suicide.

  3. Kirsten says:

Thank you so much for including me in this terrific list! So amazing to be amongst such great stories. Sad I don’t have much international travel to share myself right now, but always happy to share the lesser known sides of the USA!

Nothing wrong with that. I haven’t taken a real trip in almost a year — but there’s plenty of good material here in the States!

  4. I agree with you that the Czech Republic has the stodgiest food around .. although my experience in Nashville comes a close second:
