Travel Blogs: Best of the Week (September 12-18, 2010)
As always, you can subscribe to my Travel Blogs Bundle on Google Reader. We’re closing in on 80!
Here are some of my favorite travel blog posts from the past week:
Sarajevo, Mostar, and the Legacy of the Bosnian War: Why is it that this war seems to be forgotten by so many people? Andy from 501 Places paints a somber picture of Sarajevo and Mostar today, complete with heartbreaking images. When touring the Balkans, this is something you shouldn’t miss.
What Has Travel Taught Me? Congratulations to Sherry from OttsWorld on her 500th post! In this interesting post, she talks about how she went from being a corporate drone to a full-time traveler, and what she’s learned in the process. It’s a very inspiring piece!
Happy Chlamydia Monday! Seriously. It’s a holiday in Sweden. Kate from Transatlantic Sketches (who, I swear to you, is my long-lost twin), writes about how this amusing holiday came to be — and how it’s an example of how a health initiative can be successful.
New Zealand’s Top 5 Backpacking Destinations: This is a great post for anyone who dreams of traveling through New Zealand. Backpacking Matt has spent a lot of time in New Zealand, and he includes write-ups on five top destinations along with some beautiful photos.
Quantifying and Qualifying Bragging and Travel: I cringed a bit through this piece, because while I try SO hard not to brag about travel, I know I’ve had some moments of weakness! I at least hope I’m not like the guy depicted in this post. Suzy Guese talks about the purpose of bragging about travel and what it says about us. The comments here are great, too.
How Much Money Do You Need to Start a Life of Travel? Another informative post from Wandering Earl, who has been traveling more or less constantly for 11 years. He began his trip with $1500 in his pocket. Just $1500! His point is that having so little money encouraged him to start making money in creative ways, which led to a self-funded life of travel.
Please give these excellent bloggers some traffic! Have a great week, everyone.
