It’s been a while since I did a #Frifotos-themed post, but I think it’s time to jump back into the habit.  This week’s theme?  CLOUDS!  I love clouds and I love photographing them around the world, especially with the Pro HDR app on my iPhone.

This afternoon before my shipwreck in Indonesia, on an island off the coast of Lombok, I got a glimpse of what was headed our way.  I’ve never seen cloudy skies and beach like this anywhere in the world.

Yet another reminder to be extremely careful while taking boats during the rainy season in Indonesia.

I spent my time in Iceland enjoying mostly cloudless skies, but the clouds rolled in for my final day.  This was shot in Þingvellir National Park, Iceland, just after snorkeling the freezing waters of Silfra under the midnight sun.

The island of Koh Lanta, Thailand, is home to the best sunsets in the world, as you can see.  Hitting Koh Lanta at the tail end of rainy season meant that the sunsets were filled with huge indigo clouds as the sun sank into the Andaman.

Then, of course, there’s being up above the clouds!  The views were spectacular from the Tirolean Alps, outside Innsbruck, Austria.

One of the many things I love about the TV show Breaking Bad is the cinematography — they feature absolutely GORGEOUS shots of the New Mexico desert.  And it’s no exaggeration — as this picture shows, the scenery really is incredible.

This purple sunset over the Blue Mosque in Istanbul was one to remember.  It was also my most popular photo ever on Instagram at the time.

Shetland skies brought the drama, like here on the double beach.  You’d have to take that shot quickly, though, because in Shetland, the weather changes every few minutes!

As far as I’m concerned, though, the best cloudy skies, filled with big, chunky clouds set against bright blue sky, are in Umbria, Italy!
